Anabel Montesinos, the youngest winner (at the age of 17) of the Francisco Tárrega International Guitar Competition, the oldest and most prestigious classical guitar competition in the world.
Originally from Hospitalet del Infante, a town in the province of Tarragona, Anabel began her music studies at the age of 5 at the local music school. She then studied at the Conservatory of Tarragona, followed by the Higher Conservatory of Alicante. At 19, she moved to Austria, where she studied at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, obtaining her Magister degree.
Winner of over 10 first prizes in international competitions, Anabel Montesinos has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, where she made her debut in 2011. She has played with the Spanish Radio and Television Choir (RTVE) for classical television concerts and has collaborated with prestigious orchestras such as ADDA Simfònica of Alicante, Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, Sundsvall Symphony Orchestra of Sweden, Oulu Philharmonic Orchestra of Finland, Havana Philharmonic, Moscow Philharmonic, Pomeranian Philharmonic of Poland, and many others. She has also performed with the Berlin Philharmonic, playing Concierto de Aranjuez for the outdoor concert series in Potsdam, Berlin, in front of more than 4,000 people.
She has been an honorary citizen of Solero, Italy, since 2011. That same year, she won the Golden Guitar Award at the International Guitar Convention in Alessandria, Italy, in recognition of her artistic career. She has recorded two albums for the Naxos label, one of which was included in the in-flight entertainment program of British Airways. Her albums have been praised by international press for their beauty, freshness, and virtuosity. She shared a concert series with Paco de Lucía in Sweden, dedicated to Spanish music, presenting “The Other Side of Spanish Music.” Besides her classical repertoire, spanning from the Renaissance to the present day, Anabel has performed popular music, including arrangements of The Beatles and Queen, such as her guitar and orchestra rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
In 2022, she released her third solo album, recorded in Brazil with GuitarCoop. The album, Alma Llanera, is dedicated to Latin American music. In 2023, she completed a tour of over 30 concerts, including the world premiere of “Concerto Allegro”, a piece dedicated to Anabel Montesinos and composed by Italian composer Nicola Campogrande. The concert took place at the Alicante Auditorium with the ADDA Simfònica Orchestra, conducted by José Vicente, in celebration of Guitar Day. Another highlight was the 100th Anniversary of Villarreal Football Club, where she performed a concert dedicated to the music of Francisco Tárrega, arranged for guitar, choir, and orchestra, alongside soloists from the Royal Opera House and the Veus de Cambra choir.
Currently, Anabel is an artist and ambassador for the Strömmar platform. She is also a Savarez artist, playing with Cantiga Alliance Premium high-tension strings, and her guitar, Jasmine, was built in 2018 by the renowned luthier Steve Connor.
