Kathleen Balfe, cellist, has lived in Spain since 2003, where she has built a multifaceted career performing in a variety of styles as an orchestral musician, soloist, and member of various musical ensembles.

She has performed as a soloist or as part of chamber groups at festivals and concert series such as the Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical, the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, the Córdoba XX Festival de Música Contemporánea, Festival Mozaic, FestClásica, the Manuel de Falla Festival of Spanish Music in Cádiz, the Classical Music Festival of El Escorial, the Bernaola Festival, Pirineos Classic, La Quincena Musical de San Sebastián, the Jornadas de Música Contemporánea de Sevilla, and the International Festival of Music and Dance of Granada. She has performed in venues such as the Manuel de Falla Auditorium in Granada, the Auditorio de Tenerife, the Reina Sofía Museum Auditorium in Madrid, Teatros del Canal, and the National Theatre Auditorium in San José, Costa Rica. She has been heard as a soloist or chamber musician in the United States, France, Israel, the Czech Republic, Monaco, Italy, and Costa Rica.

Kathleen Balfe has taught cello to cellists of all ages and levels through private lessons and masterclasses at conservatories and universities. She has been a faculty member of the Andalucía Youth Orchestra, the Santa Rosa Symphony Summer Academy, the California Youth Symphony summer camp, the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada Academy, and the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra Academy. A student of Irene Sharp, Lawrence Lesser, Elisabeth Reed, and Emmanuel Balssa, she recently earned Level 1 and ECC certification from the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Additionally, she has attended numerous courses and symposiums on music pedagogy through CEPIC and the American String Teachers Association.

In addition to the USA and Spain, she has performed as a soloist or chamber musician in France, Israel, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Monaco, Italy, and Costa Rica.

Kathleen Balfe has taught cello technique to cellists of all ages through private lessons and masterclasses at conservatories and universities. In 2024, she was on the faculty of the Santa Rosa Symphony Summer Academy, the California Youth Symphony summer camp, and the Andalucía Youth Orchestra. In previous years, she has also been on the faculty of the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada Academy and the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra Academy.
